Bangkok in Panic as 7.7 Earthquake Hits Myanmar: Tremors Felt in Thailand

On March 28, 2025, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, sending powerful tremors across Southeast Asia, including Thailand’s capital, Bangkok. Though Myanmar has borne the brunt of the disaster, with 23 confirmed deaths and many more injured, the tremors also caused panic in Bangkok, where people rushed out of buildings as they feared the worst.

The earthquake, which struck near Mandalay in Myanmar’s central region, sent shockwaves across a wide area. Buildings in Bangkok were visibly swaying, causing widespread panic among residents. While there were no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties in Thailand, the event reminded the region of its vulnerability to natural disasters, as Southeast Asia is prone to earthquakes, tsunamis, and other catastrophes.

In Myanmar, the situation is far worse. Emergency responders are facing significant challenges due to damaged roads and infrastructure. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and it’s feared that the number of casualties could rise significantly as rescue operations continue. Many people remain trapped under collapsed buildings, and aftershocks have only added to the chaos.

The earthquake has drawn a swift response from neighboring countries, with Thailand sending emergency teams to Myanmar. The global community is also mobilizing to provide humanitarian aid to the devastated region.
