Shivakumar Denies BJP’s Allegations of Constitutional Changes for Muslim Reservations in Karnataka

D.K. Shivakumar, the Karnataka Congress leader, has firmly rejected allegations made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claiming that he had suggested altering the Indian Constitution to introduce reservations for Muslims. The BJP had criticized Shivakumar’s recent speech, interpreting his call for social justice as a proposal for constitutional amendments aimed at Muslim welfare.

Shivakumar addressed the issue directly, labeling the BJP’s claims as false and misleading. In a public statement, he clarified that his remarks were centered on ensuring that marginalized communities, including Muslims, receive equal opportunities through affirmative action, not on constitutional alterations. He expressed concern that the BJP was using these unfounded allegations to create a divisive political atmosphere in the lead-up to Karnataka’s upcoming elections.

The Congress leader also stated that reservations should be based on socio-economic criteria, and no group should be unfairly targeted or excluded. He reaffirmed his commitment to the principles of the Indian Constitution, which emphasizes equal rights and opportunities for all citizens, irrespective of caste, religion, or creed.

The BJP has continued to criticize Shivakumar, accusing him of attempting to pander to Muslim voters. This controversy highlights the growing polarization of Karnataka’s political environment as both the Congress and BJP gear up for the state elections.
