The Hotel Royal Plaza dispute between brothers RP Mittal and Ashok Mittal took a violent turn on Friday when the latter’s daughter assaulted the former’s daughter in an open court while judges were busy hearing the case. The incident took place in Court No. 2 of the NCLT (National Company Law Tribunal) at Lodhi Colony Complex when the court was in session. The incident had left the judicial community in shock as it was packed with lawyers and litigants.
In her complaint filed with the Lodhi Colony police station on December 22, the victim, Vandana Mittal, daughter of Ram Parshottam Mittal, demanded immediate registration of a criminal case against her alleged assaulter, Ruchi Mittal, daughter of Ashok Mittal, a resident of 42 Ashoka Avenue, Sainik Farms, Khanpur, New Delhi. Since the courtroom was live, she has asked to preserve today’s CCTV footage and check the veracity of her complaint.
She has further requested the Delhi Police provide armed protection, alleging there have been constant threats to her life from Ashok Mittal and his daughter Ruchi Mittal.
Describing the sequence of events that led to Ruchi’s violent outburst, Vandana, in her complaint, said: I reached NCLT court at around 10.37 AM and got my visit pass issued from Section Officer Block No. C, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003, and thereafter I reached Court No. 2 (Room No. 702) to stand the hearing in respect of these four company petitions, bearing Nos. Company Petition No. 992/2005, Company Petition No. 1832/2008, Company Petition No. 47/ND/2010, and Company Petition No. 108/ND/2023. When the arguments in the case were about to begin, Justice Ashok Kumar Bhardwaj asked me a few questions, and everyone was shocked when Ms. Ruchi Mittal, a resident of 42 Ashoka Avenue, Sainik Farms, Khanpur, Delhi-110062, slapped me (Vandana Mittal) on the face in open court in front of Justice Ashok Kumar Bhardwaj, Honble Member (J), Shri Subrata Kumar Dash, Hon’ble Member Manojj Kesri and Rohil Kesri, on behalf of his wife and mother, Mrs. Jyoti Kesri, and Arnav Jain, on behalf of her mother, Sapna Jain, were also present.
She continued, Since the court is equipped with CCTV cameras, the entire incident of him slapping and injuring me is also documented in the CCTV cameras, which may also be retrieved and preserved as evidence. My left eye swelled from the hard slapping, and I began to have excruciating pain in my left side of my face’s nerves. I went to Dr. Soni’s Dental Clinic Pvt. Ltd., 28 Feroze Gandhi Road, Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi, as a result, and Dr. Vishal Gupta performed a root canal and diagnosed me with “trauma to the left side of my face,” along with oedema close to the left side.”
R. P. Mittal and his younger brother Ashok Mittal have a long-standing disagreement on who owns Hotel Royal Plaza. Since the Income Tax Department and other agencies began looking into Hillcrest, a foreign shell firm that was a significant hotel investor, the case has taken an odd turn. The investigation has yielded the shocking revelation that the Malaysia-based Hillcrest company, which invested approximately Rs 29 crore in the hotel in 2003 and overthrew RP Mittal, was partnered with fugitive hawala dealers Ashok Mittal and Nand Kishore Chaturvedi. In light of RP Mittal’s demands for the hotel to regain control, the NCLT’s upcoming hearings in this dispute have taken on greater importance.
